Kimberley Jane and Zoe Jasmine have written a must-read children’s picture book for anyone wanting to learn how therapy dogs can benefit and connect to many in our world where well-being is critical. As a mother and grandmother, I am acutely aware of the role pets, especially dogs, play in a child's life. They are playmates, confidants and always ready for a cuddle when the world looks overwhelming. However, I was very unaware of the role that therapy dogs can play.

I think this book will help both adults and children understand the concept of therapy dogs and the way they fit into the school environment.

I can also see that a child could be encouraged to speak about their early school experiences using this book as a starting point. Kimberley and Zoe have created a beautifully illustrated book with a message.

Walk a Week with Us draws upon the knowledge, experience, and natural connectedness that Kimberley Jane and Zoe Jasmine possess with both children and their beloved therapy dogs, Daisy-Anne and Mickey.

This captivating recount immerses readers of all ages in the daily purpose and nature of dog-centered therapy, through the eyes of these playful pups!

Ultimately, as societal awareness of well-being increases, the use of authentic and accessible early intervention resources such as this dynamic work, is invaluable for support staff, but more importantly children, as they learn strategies to manage their feelings across settings.

It is with great joy and a somewhat surprised pleasure that I thoroughly endorse, Kimberley Jane and Zoe Jasmine, in their first journey into the realm of printed authors with their delightful story; Walk a Week With Us. As a retired primary school teacher with over 40 years spent in primary classrooms, here in Queensland and New South Wales, children’s literature has always been a keen interest of mine. Bedtime stories were always a habit in our family home.

So back to the book they have published. Characters are what make a book come alive in the minds of children and this book has two (2) amazing characters, Daisy and Mickey. The use of caricature engages the children’s interest immediately and they can’t wait to get started. Then there is an added bonus of actually being able to have Daisy or Mickey sitting in the room as the story is read; story is sold.

In the language construction of the story, the use of scene repetition and rhyme has the children’s mind running ahead of the text with gleeful expectation. The use of rhyme enables the introduction of words outside their normal sight or reading experience.

The other main feature of this book are the illustrations. What the reader has just read, what they are now able to see, and the “a hah moment” kicks in. The colour is vibrant and eye catching and the repletion factor further enhanced.

Finally, this book should not be confined to the children’s literature genre because it is ably suited for seniors shut away from normal life.

This book is a true gem and both, Kimberley Jane and Zoe Jasmine should be proud of the first fruits of their writing journey together.

Go change the world,

David McGuire

Retired Primary School Teacher of 40 years.

Kimberley Jane and Zoe Jasmine’s passion for paws is portrayed beautifully in the pages of their book "Walk a Week With Us". The illustrations, rhyme, repetition and easy-to-read story perfectly captures the purpose and benefits of therapy dogs. The real Daisy and Micky are just as delightful as their drawn characters. This book is a delightful read for young and old.

Get ready for a heart-warming adventure with Daisy and Mickey the therapy dogs! This delightful children's picture book follows the adorable journey of these unique dogs. With its easy-to-read storyline, fun-filled moments at home and heart-warming experiences at school, ‘Walk a Week With Us’ teaches valuable lessons about friendship, empathy, and the joy of lending a paw. The eye-catching illustrations will have the children exploring every detail in wonder.

After reading this book to my foundation students, they were very keen to share their feelings and connections to various themes in the story, especially when Daisy was helping a sad little girl.

Students enjoyed discussing what makes them sad at school and how a dog might help them feel better.

‘Walk a Week With Us’ draws inspiration from the true story of Daisy and Mickey, genuine therapy dogs who offer unconditional love and also relish their home life when not on duty. This book not only deepened students' understanding of therapy dogs and their roles at work and in leisure but also ignited their creativity, inspiring the creation of numerous charming dog-themed books.

This book would be a treasured addition to any home, classroom and school library.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting Kimberley Jane at Josiah College, who captivated our students with a delightful reading of her book about her two therapy dogs, Daisy and Mickey. Kimberley’s engaging storytelling, combined with her warm personality, had the students fully immersed in the story, and they were especially thrilled to hear about the real-life Daisy and Mickey.

After the reading, Kimberley spoke to our older students about her journey as a published author, offering valuable insights into the writing and illustrating process. The collaboration with her daughter Zoe added a special personal touch, and the students were fascinated by the stages involved in bringing a book to life.

Kimberley’s presentation was not only informative but also highly engaging. She made the creative process accessible to the students, inspiring them to think about their own writing and artistic endeavours. I would highly recommend Kimberley’s author visit to other schools. It was an enriching experience for both students and staff alike!

A little puppy love goes a long way Published in Top News

Inside the Intensive Care Unit, it's a hive of activity.

Staff work together seamlessly, following a unique choreography, orchestrated to a backing track of beeping machines and quiet conversations. It's a team that's always calm under pressure - ready to tackle any challenge that comes their way.

But caring for the most critically unwell patients can take its toll. While ICU staff thrive in this fast-paced environment, a break from the hustle and bustle is vital for their wellbeing.

Tucked away from the hospital hallways, in the staff tearoom, Gold Coast Health's smallest volunteer is making a big difference. In her vibrant orange vest, it's hard to miss Daisy - the three-year-old therapy dog.

Cute and cuddly doesn't begin to describe Daisy, who is always ready to snuggle up to anyone who needs support.

For the past six months, Daisy and her owner Kimberley, have been volunteering their time to visit the Gold Coast University Hospital's ICU team. "Daisy came into my life several years ago after I experienced my own traumatic event," Kimberley said. "I know what it's like to be in a challenging place, and I'm very passionate about helping others.

"Daisy does all the work, but it's so exciting to share her love and it's really rewarding to see staffs' faces light up when they see her," she said.

ICU Clinical Nurse Consultant Kate Elliot says the visits are a beloved tradition for the team.

"Our focus is not just patients and their families, but our staff," Kate said. "Staff wellbeing is so important - we need our staff to feel supported, so they can continue providing that vital care. It's amazing to have Daisy and Kimberley visit us. Daisy really helps staff switch off from the stress. We all look forward to seeing Daisy, and you can see the difference she makes. It shows staff that we really value them and recognise the challenging nature of their work."

Little Daisy even heIped spread some pawsitivity through the Gold Coast Health Hospital and Health Board, including Board Chair, Prof Cindy Shannon AM. "On a recent visit to ICU with Board director Colette McCool, we had the experience of meeting Daisy," Cindy said.

"It was great to see the impact Daisy is having on the wellbeing of our staff whose work is such a high intensity environment."

Thank you, Kimberley and Daisy, for spreading a little bit of puppy love where it's needed most!
